Rockumentary following the fallout from the U.S. country trio’s anti-President Bush remark. While onstage in London, on the eve of the Iraq war in 2003, Dixie Chicks singer Natalie Maines made an off-the-cuff remark that she was ashamed that President George Bush was from her home state of Texas. Picked up by right-wing groups in the U.S., the remark created a media firestorm, instigating a national debate about the right to free speech, patriotism and the Iraq war. At the height of the frenzy, the previously well-loved trio received death threats and had their albums burned, provoking comparisons with John Lennon’s famous ‘bigger than Jesus’ remark in the ’60s. Despite the onslaught the trio maintained a dignified stance, garnering support and turning a potentially career-destroying episode into a triumph. Includes footage of the band live on tour and in the studio.
