Triple-bill of animated children’s films. ‘The Tale of Despereaux’ (2008) is an adventure featuring an all-star voice cast including Matthew Broderick, Sigourney Weaver and Dustin Hoffman. The film tells the tale of Despereaux Tilling (Broderick), a misfit mouse in love with music, stories, and a princess named Pea (Emma Watson), a rat called Roscuro (Hoffman) who lives in the darkness but covets a world filled with light, and Miggery Sow (Tracey Ullman), a slow-witted serving girl with cauliflower ears who harbours one simple, but utterly impossible, wish. The unlikely trio embark on an adventure-filled journey that takes them down into a horrible dungeon, up into a glittering castle, and into a circle of friendship that will never be broken. ‘Open Season 2’ (2008) is a CGI-animated family comedy. After falling head over hooves in love with fellow deer Giselle (voiced by Jane Krakowski), Elliot (Joel McHale)’s road to the altar takes a slight detour when Mr Weenie (Cody Cameron) is kidnapped by a group of pampered pets led by petulant poodle Fifi (Crispin Glover). ‘Surf’s Up’ (2007) is another CGI offering in which Cody Maverick (voiced by Shia LeBeouf) is a young penguin who dreams of winning the biggest penguin surfing competition of the year: the Penguin World Surfing Championship. His pursuit of this goal becomes the chosen subject of a team of documentary makers who go behind the scenes of the competition and interview Cody, his friends and surfing fans along the way. Jeff Bridges, Zooey Deschanel and James Woods are among the other actors who lend their voices to the film’s characters.
