1990 Tv-Movie which tells the true story of the tragic Challenger Space Shuttle disaster which took place on January 28th, 1986. Filmed on location at the Johnson Space Center in Texas, the film stars Karen Allen (Raiders of the Lost Ark) as school teacher turned astronaut, Christa McAuliffe and Barry Bostwick (The Rocky Horror Show) as flight commander Dick Scobee, with Julie Fulton, Richard Jenkins, Brian Kerwin, Joe Morton and Keone Young as the other members of the crew, and Angela Bassett, Lane Smith & Peter Boyle amongst the supporting cast. The film focuses on the lives of the seven crew in the months leading up to the fateful launch as well as showing what went on behind the scenes as the launch drew near, with arguments and corporate inability to resolve defects, which are all the more bewildering given the tragic consequences which followed as a result.
