The series is based on an extensive library of outstanding archive material from American, English, German, Soviet and Japanese sources, and incorporates all major events, including the Anschluss of Austria, the Blitzkrieg on Poland, Operation Barbarossa, Japan’s attack on Pearl Harbour, D-Day, the raising of the Stars & Stripes on Mount Surabachi (Iwo Jima), Germany’s surrender at Stalingrad, General MacArthur’s return to the Philippines, the landing on Okinawa, the Battle of the Bulge, the assassination attempt on Hitler, US naval victory in the Bismarck Sea, Hitler’s suicide and the first atomic bomb exploding over Hiroshima.
