The Fireman – 1916 Black & White. Our hero as a fireman surely not! Charlie brings a new level of incompetence to the most worthy of professions, however, despite his ineptitude he still manages to save a beautiful girl from a nasty end. The Adventurer – 1917 Black & White. Chaplin escapes from prison, steals a bathing suit and saves a girl and her mother who are in danger of drowning. So the scene is set for Charlie to be indulged by these two ladies as reward for saving them. Despite the expected levels of chaos, Charlie enjoys the high life until his picture is seen a newspaper and he is arrested and taken back to prison. The Vagabond – 1916 Black & White. As an itinerant violinist, Chaplin finds himself in competition with a German street band and loses the contest. He leaves and finds himself at a gypsy encampment playing his violin for a gypsy girl. The pair embark an a trip during which they come across an artist, the girl gets her portrait painted and the picture becomes famous. It turns out that the girl is not a gypsy after all and her real mother recognises her from the portrait, and comes to reclaim her. Charlie is resigned to losing the girl to which he has become fond but she in turn comes back for him and all ends happily for our hero.
