Shortly after co-pilot Nick Vanzant (James Spader) joins 22nd medical rescue vessel the Nightingale 299, the ship receives a distress call from a mine on a rogue moon. The signal was apparently sent by Karl Larson, abusive former lover of the Nightingale’s chief medical officer, Kaela Evers (Angela Bassett). The crew have to make a dimension jump to get to the moon, during which the captain is killed and the fuel supply is damaged.
