In ‘Don’t Say a Word’ (2001), psychiatrist Nathan Conrad (Michael Douglas) finds himself caught in a living nightmare when his daughter is kidnapped by desperate jewel thief Patrick Koster (Sean Bean). Koster is searching for a precious stone which was stolen from him years ago, and to this end he needs to obtain a secret code hidden within the disturbed mind of Elisabeth Burrows (Brittany Murphy), one of Conrad’s teenage patients. Koster now tells Conrad that the only way he’ll ever see his daughter again is if he extracts the code from Elisabeth; but Elisabeth isn’t speaking … In ‘One Hour Photo’ (2002), Sy Parrish (Robin Williams) is a middle-aged loner who works as a photograph developer in a supermarket. He has gradually become obsessed with one family, the Yorkins, who regularly come to his counter, making duplicates of each film they bring in to be developed and pinning the photographs to the walls of his apartment. When Sy realises that Will Yorkin (Michael Vartan) is cheating on wife Nina (Connie Nielsen), he steps up his silent interaction with the family, placing evidence of the infidelity in an envelope of photos he has recently developed for young Jake Yorkin (Dylan Smith). Soon however, Parrish reveals his hand, and the Yorkin family realise the full horror of their situation. In ‘What Lies Beneath’ (2000), Dr Norman Spencer (Harrison Ford) becomes worried about his wife Claire (Michelle Pfeiffer) when she claims to have seen a young woman’s ghost in their new lakeside home. He believes she is hallucinating, but Claire insists on the validity of her experience and tries to find out who the ghostly young woman is. So with the help of her best friend Jody (Diana Scarwid), Claire obtains a ouija board and makes an attempt to contact the dead….
