This is the incredible story of the greatest and most famous racehorse that has ever lived. Known in Ireland as Himself, his strength was claimed to have come from drinking Guinness twice a day.

Arkle re-wrote the record books almost every time he took to the race course. He was so superior to his rivals that the handicapper took the unprecedented step of devising two weight systems – one to be used when Arkle was running and one when he wasn’t. his third victory in the Cheltenham Gold Cup was at the extraordinary odds of 1/10.

This fascinating documentary traces Arkle’s complete life story from his birth at Ballymacoll Stud to his death on 31st May 1970, four and a half years after his retirement having fractured his pedal bone in the 1966 King George. All the key races are featured including his memorable duels with Mill House and the DVD also contains the last every interview with owner Anne, Duchess of Westminster as well as interviews with Arkle’s breeder (Alison Baker), his trainer (Tom Dreaper) and jockey, Pat Taaffe.

He won 27 of his 35 starts, never falling and sometimes giving his nearest rivals 2 and a half stone and more. This is a moving tribute to the legend.

Manufactured on the highest quality DVD-R recordable media.
