Thriller set in the desolate Arctic tundra, based on a short story by Sara Maitland. Saiva (Michelle Yeoh) is a woman who has lived her life under a curse put upon her at birth. She and Anja (Michelle Krusiec), her beautiful adopted daughter, are the sole survivors of an indigenous tribe of reindeer herders slaughtered by a troop of marauding soldiers, and they struggle to survive on the scarce prey they can kill. When Saiva finds an injured and starving soldier, Loki (Sean Bean), who is also on the run from the marauding band, she takes him in and the two women nurse him back to health as the long winter nights draw in. But when Loki and Anja grow close and start to fall in love, devastating consequences lie in store for all three.
Far North is a chilling film from Asif Kapadia (Senna, The Warrior). Set in the vast and remote landscape of the Arctic, it tells a beautiful, shocking story of survival and revenge. Against her instincts, a woman, Saiva (played by Michelle Yeoh: Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon), rescues a wounded stranger (Sean Bean: Lord of the Rings trilogy) from the ice and nurses him back to health with the help of the young and stunning Anja. The two women compete for the mans affection, only to become embroiled in a heated love triangle. Shot with precision under treacherous conditions, thelm shows the universal longing for love and connection, amid the hardships of arctic life. With an original score to match the intensity of the images, Far North delves deep into a world of myth, love, scorn, deceit and, ultimately, the overwhelming force of nature.
