Jim Sheridan directs Jake Gyllenhaal and Natalie Portman in this remake of Susanne Bier’s 2004 Danish drama. Sam Cahill (Tobey Maguire) is a decorated Marine who goes missing in action while on duty in Afghanistan. In his absence, his younger brother Tommy (Gyllenhaal) – an ex-con drifter recently released from prison – attempts to support and comfort his bereft sister-in-law Grace (Portman) and her two daughters, with consequences that threaten to shake the foundations of the entire family.
