Part one of the TV adaptation of Sebastian Faulks’s best-selling novel, charting a doomed love story played out against the backdrop of WW1. In 1910 Englishman Stephen Wraysford (Eddie Redmayne) travels to Amiens, France to stay at the family home of wealthy factory owner Ren Azaire (Laurent Lafitte). While there, he begins a passionate affair with Ren’s young wife, Isabelle (Clmence Posy), eventually convincing her to leave her abusive husband for him. Years later, long after events have conspired to send them both their separate ways, Stephen, now witnessing the full horror of life on the Western Front, decides to make contact with the one woman he only ever loved.
