17-year-old Cally (Clea DuVall) now lives with her father on a houseboat, after spending the first five years of her life in a commune. Cally’s mother was a free spirit who was allegedly forced to go underground for political reasons, but her absence leaves a gap in the teen tearaway’s life until she meets Sabine (Daryl Hannah), a 34-year-old runaway eccentric. The two meet at a concert, and gradually form a close friendship, trading secrets and getting into trouble together. But while Cally’s father begins to fear that she is slipping away from him, could it be possible that she has at last discovered the mother she believed was lost forever?
