1960 was a special year indeed. The new Queen crowned, just seven years earlier, heralded in a new Elizabethan age. Rock and Roll still ruled the airwaves but a new star was born as John F Kennedy emerged as the new President of The United States The year was momentous for many other reasons. It was the year of The Rome Olympics, Princess Margaret finally married and the Hitchcock movie Psycho opened and we all witnessed “the shower” scene for the first time. In the South Wales town of Bridgend something else momentous was happening—the formation of The Bridgend Male Choir. Who could possibly have known in those early days that this group of men would go on to reach the ears and hearts of literally millions of people around the world and become a timeless symbol of the very best of Welsh music. Today fifty years on, the choir continues to flourish as this wonderful anniversary collection of songs demonstrates. Under the baton of Musical Director John Jenkins the choir continue to scale new musical heights . As we raise our glasses to fifty glorious we can all optimistically look forward to the choirs’ next half century of song.
