Alice McKinley (Alyson Stoner) is an eleven-year-old girl who finds her life seriously disrupted when her widowed father Ben (Luke Perry) buys a store and moves her and her older brother Lester (Lucas Grabeel) to a new town. Alice misses her mother dearly and has a rough time adjusting to being the new girl at school, especially after she gets the stern Mrs Plotkin (Penny Marshall) as her new teacher.
