Once they land find themselves caught up in all kinds of adventures from slave trading to detective work for the beautiful Donna Latour (Dorothy Lamour). In ‘Going My Way’ (1944), the arrival of easy-going young priest Father Chuck O’Malley (Crosby) at debt-ridden St Dominic’s Church does not sit easily with ageing Father Fitzgibbon (Barry Fitzgerald), who has been in charge for 45 years. However, O’Malley is soon reaching out to the local, disenfranchised youth and swelling the parishioners’ ranks through the medium of song. In ‘Holiday Inn’ (1942), Jim Hardy (Crosby) and Ted Hanover (Fred Astaire) are a successful song and dance double act until Jim decides to retire and become a gentleman farmer following Ted’s seduction of his girlfriend. Jim fails as a farmer, but decides to convert his property to an inn that is only open on public holidays. Packed with Irving Berlin songs, including ‘Let’s Say It With Firecrackers’, ‘Easter Parade’ and ‘White Christmas’.
