Three documentaries looking at British life from the 1940s to the 1960s. ‘Britain in the 1940s’ uses newsreel footage to look at life during the dark days of the war, and the age of austerity afterwards, enlivened by the glamorous wedding of Princess Elizabeth to Prince Philip. ‘Britain in the 1950s’ looks at the events of the decade, including the Queen’s Coronation in 1953, the conquering of Everest, and the tragic Munich air disaster. ‘Britain in the 1960s’ looks at the huge social changes of the time, from the emergence of the Beatles, the anti-war protests in London, and the new fashions coming out of Carnaby Street.
