To travel by train from Exeter to Penzance is a journey never to be forgotten, with dramatic coastal scenery and rolling countryside. Our journey begins in the cathedral city of Exeter before we board an Intercity that takes us past the River Exe and the red cliffs south of Exmouth to Dawlish, Teignmouth and on to Paignton. The next part of journey is on the Paignton and Dartmouth heritage line where we travel on the GWR Lydham Manor 4-6-0 as it coasts down the incline to Goodrington Sands and on to the end of the line at Kingswear. We now take time out on the South Devon Railway and visit Buckfastleigh and Buckfast Abbey before entering Cornwall via Plymouth. We visit many charming little towns and villages on the way to St Austell and Truro. Sweeping along the bay, we finally reach our destination at Penzance, Britain s most southerly railway station.
