Double bill of Mae West classics. In ‘I’m No Angel’ (1933), the ever-libidinous West stars as dancer and lion tamer Tira. Short of cash, Tira starts performing ever more dangerous stunts hoping her circus builds up an exciting reputation. When she meets handsome Jack Clayton (Cary Grant), however, Tira ends up suing him for breach of contract after their relationship breaks up. Only when Clayton lets her win the case does she realise that she truly loves him. In ‘Klondike Annie’ (1936), the brassy West stars as a woman of high breeding thrust into the thick of the old west’s Klondike. On the lam from a self-defence murder rap, the beautiful Rose Carlton (West) runs off to Alaska. High heels and the muddy streets of panning towns are a poor combination and the high-living heroine soon questions what she’s going to do in such a place. She does the unlikely and teams up with Sister Annie Alden (Helen Jerome Eddy) working at the local mission. Her methods of converting sinners are as unconventional as you’d expect from a Mae West character…
