Double-bill of zombie horror. ‘Land of the Dead’ (2005) is the fourth instalment in director George A. Romero’s zombie sequence. With the living dead having now taken over much of the world, the few survivors left have retreated to a fortified city, where the rich live in penthouse apartments while the poor suffer on the streets below. Governed by the corrupt Kaufman (Dennis Hopper), the city comes under threat when the impoverished population begin to demand a change in leadership and it becomes obvious that the army of zombies outside the city walls is beginning to adapt to its surroundings. In the comedy horror ‘Shaun of the Dead’ (2004), Shaun (Simon Pegg) is a useless but likeable thirty-something who works in an electronics shop in Crouch End. He doesn’t get much respect from his fellow staff, even though he’s standing in as temporary boss; his girlfriend Liz (Kate Ashfield) has had enough of his lack of direction and penchant for downing pints in the local pub; he doesn’t get on with his stepdad (Bill Nighy), and his best friend Ed (Nick Frost) isn’t getting on with his flatmate Pete (Peter Serafinowicz). Things get worse when the living dead make their appearance, threatening to spread their zombie curse across the nation. Will Shaun be able to rise from his sofa to save the lives of the two women he loves – Liz and his dear old mum?
