Another case for Detective Chief Inspector Barnaby (John Nettles) and Sergeant Ben Jones (Jason Hughes). Charles Finleyson has been missing for two weeks when he is found dead in his car off a woodland path near Midsomer. Barnaby soon uncovers connections between the dead man and magazine editor Guy Sandys (Simon Williams), who has gained a reputation amongst the locals for his cutting hotel and restaurant reviews.
