The second season premiered on April 19, 2014. Season 2 features several new recurring characters, including: Cal Morrison, one of Sarah’s past lovers, played by Michiel Huisman Henrik “Hank” Johanssen, a Prolethean religious leader who is against the clone science, played by Peter Outerbridge Mark, one of Johannsen’s most devout followers, played by Ari Millen and Marion Bowles, Rachel’s boss at the Dyad Institute, played by Michelle Forbes. Patrick J. Adams guest stars in episode six of the second season, portraying the character of Jesse, a regular guy whose life changes drastically when he forms a connection with the various clones. The first episode of the second season follows directly on from the season one finale. Sarah seeks the comfort of Felix and confronts Rachel in an attempt to convince her to release Mrs. S and Kira, while Cosima and Delphine further examine Cosima’s biology and respiratory illness. Alison takes up acting to help her recover from the loss of Aynsley and enlists the services of Ramon, an unregistered weapons dealer, to help further Sarah’s cause.
All season two episode titles are quotes from the works of Sir Francis Bacon. The first episode of the season, “Nature Under Constraint and Vexed” is derived from Part 3 of Bacon’s The Plan of the Work, published in 1620.
