Swashbuckler Richard Sharpe (Sean Bean) marries his sweetheart Jane, but immediately has to leave for a daring mission in the Pyrenees. While he is away, his new wife contracts a deadly disease which has swept through the the British camp, but Sharpe realises that he must stay and defeat the French (and his arch-rival Ducos) even though he knows that he may never see his beloved again.
