Double bill of financial dramas. ‘The Wolf of Wall Street’ (2013) follows 1980s New York stockbroker Jordan Belfort (Leonardo DiCaprio)’s relentless pursuit of wealth. Earning just shy of one million dollars a week thanks to his involvement in manipulating stock prices for his own financial gain, Belford heads a committed team at his Stratton Oakmont brokerage house in Long Island. However, it isn’t long before he attracts the attention of the FBI who are suspicious of his increasingly lavish and hedonistic lifestyle. The cast also includes Matthew McConaughey, Jonah Hill and Jon Bernthal. In ‘The Big Short’ (2015) financial analyst Michael Burry (Christian Bale) uncovers an impending crash in the housing market and puts together a plan to profit from it. As Burry’s predictions are spread by those who believe he is mad, a small number of people, including Jared Vennett (Ryan Gosling), Ben Rickert (Brad Pitt) and Mark Baum (Steve Carell), get on board with his idea in the hope of saving their assets. The supporting cast includes Marisa Tomei, Rafe Spall and Karen Gillan.
