Film adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic adventure yarn. Young Jim Hawkins becomes involved in skullduggery on the high seas when ailing pirate Billy Bones (Patrick Bergin) arrives to stay at his grandmother’s inn, ‘The Admiral Benbow’. Bones is being hunted down by his former shipmates, who want to get their hands on a map revealing the secret location of famous pirate Flint’s treasure. Bones gives Jim the map, and he is joined by Doctor Livesey and Squire Trelawney when he goes in search of the island where the treasure is hidden. However, also hot on the trail is rascally one-legged pirate Long John Silver (Jack Palance), posing as ship’s cook and ready to call his fellow crewmen to mutiny when the time is right! From the Back Cover
Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic tale of dastardly pirates, swashbuckling heroes, buried treasure and a young boy’s courgae during the adventure of a lifetime.
We begin with young Jim Hawkins, living with his grandmother at the Admiral Inn and all is quite as it should be … until the fateful day a stanger named Billy Bones stumbles into the inn with a wild tale. He is being pursued by a man named Blind Pew, who hands him a piece of paper with “the black spot” on it. Bones tells Jim to go to his trunk and take the map of Treasure Island he finds inside.
Thus begins a wild journey, with Hawkins and his companions Dr Livesey and Squire Trelawaney on board the Hispaniola with the cook, Long John Silver, and his somwhat strange crew. As they near the island and untold treasure, Hawkins realises that “the crew” are not who they appear.
He is in danger of losing not only the disputed treasure but his young life. Treasure Island may in fact be his final resting place, if the pirates on board the Hispaniola don’t murder him before they get there!
A fantastic adventure for all the family …
