Daniel Boone was the man whose life defined the image of the American frontier pioneer. Born in a log cabin in Berks County, Pennsylvania, 1734, he became an expert hunter and guide. More than any other man, Daniel Boone was responsible for the exploration and settlement of Kentucky. From an early age he undertook numerous explorations of unmapped spaces blazing a trail west. Boone’s life was full of great outdoor adventure including rescuing his daughter from Shawnee warriors as well as defending his fort and village, Boonesborough, from the Indians and British. Despite his renown as a pioneer, his life was sadly punctuated with loosing his own land due to lack of clear title. He eventually settled in Missouri where he died in 1820 at the age of 85.
