Double bill of goofball comedies featuring Adam Sandler. ‘You Don’t Mess With the Zohan’ (2008) stars Sandler as Zohan Dvir, an Israeli Special Forces soldier who fakes his own death so he can reinvent himself as a hairdresser in New York. He throws himself into his new identity with admirable gusto, romancing his clients by performing ‘special services’ in the back room – but is eventually recognised and must face losing his newfound life and career. ‘I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry’ (2007) is a buddy movie taken to extremes. New York firefighters Chuck Levine (Sandler) and Larry Valentine (Kevin James) live very different lives: while Chuck is a self-confessed lothario out for a good time, Larry is a widower struggling to keep a regular home life for the sake of his two young children. Struggling to deal with his loss, Larry forgets to change the primary beneficiary of his pension from his wife to his children before the cut-off date. The only solution is to get married again, but Larry can’t think of any woman he could trust enough with his children’s future. During a routine search of a burning house, Larry saves Chuck’s life in an accident and Chuck is forever indebted to his best mate as they awake in hospital. Evaluating his predicament from his sick bed, Larry finds an article about a same-sex domestic partnership, and realises Chuck could pay his debt quicker than anticipated…
