My Sister’s Keeper

Adapted from a novel based on a true story, this family drama tells the story of Christine (Kathy Bates), who has spent most of her life in institutions owing to recurring mental illness. When her domineering mother, Helen (Lynn Redgrave) dies, Christine’s sister Judy (Elizabeth Perkins), a career-driven, self-absorbed woman who has always distanced herself from her family, is appointed trustee of Christine. The film chronicles the difficult relationship between the two sisters, as Christine determinedly pushes for independence while Judy struggles to balance her sister’s needs with her own.
