The 1990s comic drama Northern Exposure became a cult hit while it was airing, and has since retained a devoted following. Beloved for its strong writing, acting, and quirky characters, the program views the remote Alaskan town of Cicely through the eyes of young New York Jewish doctor Joel Fleischman (Rob Morrow). Joel is forced into setting up practice in the town after failing to read the fine print on a med school grant, but discovers that the unusual townspeople are not as backwards and intolerable as he surmised.
